—— Please tell us about the design concept for the space. Where in this space did you use the tiles?
In a commercial facility, the relationship between space and product is like the relationship between food and a plate. While the product (the food) is the main focus, the space (the plate) greatly affects how it is perceived. Especially in commercial facilities, the "environment"—the common area for tenants—functions as the overall background, and the challenge lies in how to balance a sense of unity with individual freedom. For the renovation of the 3rd floor of the South Building of Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C., we reimagined the boundary between tenants (lease line) with flexibility and introduced a new rule: fixtures could be placed beyond the lease line as long as the area occupied by the fixture was less than 50% of the tenant's space. We hoped this rule would blur the boundaries between tenants' spaces, achieving both the freedom of individual tenants and a sense of cohesion for the entire space.
—— Please tell us about the tiles created for this project. Feel free to share the design concept, what you intended to express through the tiles, the functions you aimed to incorporate, and any specific details you focused on.
I would like to create tiles with individuality akin to pottery and crafts rather than uniformity of industrial products.
